Might pay a friend of mine to guide me through putting a new part in if he's willing. I had no clue things were this bad- was changing the oil today, poked around at what I thought was surface rust and found that big hole. At least the other arm happened to be in decent shape, so I've just got the one to deal with for now

Good plan! Just one side, eh? That's odd. Good on you for taking a look around "while you're at it". I found surprise-corded tires from a track day that way.
